Welcome to the Nuthouse

Welcome to the nuthouse!  I am a mom to four neurodivergents and have come to suspect I am somewhat neurodivergent myself.  My kids are all very different and wonderful.  My oldest three are young adults and my youngest has just become a teenager.  I’ve had ample opportunity to experience many stages and to make many, many mistakes while having some successes along the way.

What is Neurodivergence?

Neurodivergence refers to any consistent way that brains work differently from others.  In our house we have ADHD, Autism, Anxiety and Sensory Processing Disorder.  Basically my family is like a Venn diagram; we have a lot of places where we overlap.

My Goal

My goal is to share some glimpses into our crazy, funny family in the hope that our experiences can help someone else navigate themselves or their family members.  I am not a perfect parent.  I always try to be the best parent for the kids that I have.  Sometimes I succeed, sometimes I fall short.  I don’t have all the answers but I hope I can lead others to ask the right questions.

Why the Nuthouse?

Why the nuthouse?  Because we are crazy in the best way.  I always think of a quote from the movie “Alice in Wonderland” (the Tim Burton version).

Mad Hatter: “Have I gone mad?”

Alice: “I’m afraid so. You’re entirely bonkers. But I’ll tell you a secret. All the best people are.”

I love our nuthouse.  I love that we are weird and quirky.  There is no place I’d rather be than in our little nuthouse.

So come in, pull up a chair and let your weird light shine and your freak flag fly.
